It’s Dora The Explorer Month!
Filed under: Featured Twins Books, Twins Bookstore News
It started innocently enough, as most obsessions do. My mother-in-law bought my twin daughter, Audrey, a Dora the Explorer hat at the beginning of winter. Neither one of my twins had ever watched Dora’s show before, but my daughter took an instant liking to the hat.
During the ice storm in December when we lost our power (and heat) for 2 days, Audrey wore her hat non-stop. It gave her warmth and a sense of safety during this stressful time. Even when the power was restored, she refused to take it off except for sleeping and bathing. For three months, she wore her Dora hat inside and outside, it didn’t matter.
Finally, in March I thought maybe the twins would like to watch Dora’s show. Well, all it took was for them to watch one show to be completely hooked on Dora. And, to my wonderful surprise Dora has younger twin siblings!
So, in honor of the enjoyment that Dora gives my twins (and the comfort she provided during our power outage), this month is Dora the Explorer month at Double Up Books. You’ll find below just some of the books that we carry that feature Dora and her twins.
Oh, and before I forget, I thought you’d like to see a picture of Audrey’s dora hat!

Chicken Soup for the Soul Twins and More is featured book for March 09
Filed under: Featured Twins Books, Newly Published Twins Books, Twin Books Reviews, Twins Bookstore News
Double Up Books has selected the brand new book in the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series, Chicken Soup for the Soul Twins and More, as our featured book for the month of March. Motivational speaker and Chicken Soup for the Soul founder has teamed up with Mark Victor Hansen and our own popular twins book author, Susan Heim, to author this book.
Chicken Soup for the Soul Twins and More is a collection of stories submitted by real people who have been touched by twins and multiples in one way or another, from the mom who is going to have twins, to twins themselves, to grandparents of twins. The book carries the message that having twins or being a twin or multiple is a special thing and should be cherished. You’ll laugh at some of the stories, cry at others, but either way you’ll be glad that you shared in this celebration of twins and multiples.
Chicken Soup for the Soul Twins and More makes a perfect gift for anyone expecting twins, triplets and multiples!
The Siblings’ Busy Book is Featured Book for Feb 09
Filed under: Author Spotlight, Featured Twins Books
At a loss for new ways to entertain the kids? YES! Then, we’ve got a book for you. February 2009’s featured book is The Siblings Busy Book. It is filled with over 200 activities that help promote a child’s growth and development and is geared for kids of all ages. What a great way to have fun and spend some quality time with your family.
What we especially like about the activities is that the list of items needed to complete any activity is everyday things that you would normally have on hand at home. No special trips to the store needed and no extra money to spend to complete the activity.
We were also lucky to be able to interview the authors of this book, Lisa Hanson and Heather Kempskie. Lisa and Heather are identical twins and mothers of young siblings. Together they came up with the activities in the book which they both do with their children. To read more about Lisa and Heather, read our author interview.
