Twins Dad Write a Book for Dads

Dad's-Guide-to-Twins250As a mother, I feel very fortunate that there are so many books written by twins moms about having and raising twins to choose from.  These are mothers who have gone where I am headed that can lend their expertise and guidance in order to make my life a lot easier.  But, dads don’t have such a luxury.  There are very few books written by twins dads about twins.  That is why I was so excited to hear about Joe Rawlinson’s new book Dad’s Guide to Twins!

If you are an expectant twin dad wondering what your twin pregnancy and future holds, help is on the way…

This book will help you be better prepared and ready to tackle life during the first few exciting and confusing months without having to wade through a lengthy book you don’t have time to read.

It is perfect for the expectant and new twin dad whether your twins are your first and second children or ninth and tenth.

By reading this book you’ll uncover money-saving tips, understand your preparation options, and eliminate common surprises that accompany every twin pregnancy and the early days of newborn twins.

Anytime one of my friends would announce that they were having twins, I would always put together a pile of books for her to read, but now with the addition of the Dad’s Guide to Twins, I’ll also be able to include a little something for daddy.

I got my hands on an advance copy of this book and I’m loving it!  It’s just what I needed to read right now while I’m waiting for the dark winter days to pass and the start of spring to begin.  If you’re a fan of authors like Jennifer Weiner, Emily Giffin, and Sophie Kinsella I think you’ll also like this debut novel.

This is a story about fraternal twin sisters Lindsey and Alex.  Lindsey, although successful in her own right, always felt inadequate when comparing herself to her beautiful twin sister.  We meet single Lindsey when she is just about to receive her dream job offer – to become the youngest VP ever at the NYC ad agency that she has been working countless hours at.  One mishap happens after another and the door to her opportunity shuts just like that.  She must now pick herself up, dust herself off, and head back home to be reunited with her family and start her career anew.  But, can she cope with her failures at the same time that her perfect sister is planning her dream wedding?

I’m really enjoying the story so far and I know it’s going to be one of those books that I’m going to be sad when it ends.  Although my description above makes it sound heavy, it’s actually a fun read with a lot of humor and warmth.  I can see this as a perfect summer read too.

So head on over tomorrow (March 3, 2010) to pre-order your book at Double Up Books and be entered into the raffle PLUS get a Jennifer Weiner book too, while supplies last.  We’ll ship your book as soon as it’s published.

Good luck!

Twins Book Author Interview with Joan Friedman, PhD

Should parents treat twins and multiples as individuals or as a pair?  Find out the answer to this important question by reading Joan Friedman, Ph.D.’s author interiew just posted on Double Up Books’ store website.  Dr. Friedman is the author of Emotionally Healthy Twins, a pioneering book that discusses the importance of how to raise twins to lead full and happy lives.

It’s Dora The Explorer Month!

It started innocently enough, as most obsessions do.  My mother-in-law bought my twin daughter, Audrey, a Dora the Explorer hat at the beginning of winter.  Neither one of my twins had ever watched Dora’s show before, but my daughter took an instant liking to the hat.

During the ice storm in December when we lost our power (and heat) for 2 days, Audrey wore her hat non-stop.  It gave her warmth and a sense of safety during this stressful time.  Even when the power was restored, she refused to take it off except for sleeping and bathing.  For three months, she wore her Dora hat inside and outside, it didn’t matter.

Finally, in March I thought maybe the twins would like to watch Dora’s show.  Well, all it took was for them to watch one show to be completely hooked on Dora.  And, to my wonderful surprise Dora has younger twin siblings

So, in honor of the enjoyment that Dora gives my twins (and the comfort she provided during our power outage), this month is Dora the Explorer month at Double Up Books.  You’ll find below just some of the books that we carry that feature Dora and her twins.

Oh, and before I forget, I thought you’d like to see a picture of Audrey’s dora hat!

Ready or Not…Here We Come! Featured Book Jan 09

If you have twins and haven’t read Elizabeth Lyon’s Ready or Not…Here We Come!, you’ve got to check out our featured book for January 2009, especially if you are currently pregnant with twins or have newborns.  You’ll laugh in recognition as Elizabeth shares her stories about raising her twin boys.

But this book isn’t just a fun book, it’s filled with practical shortcuts, real-world strategies, and sage advice.  It was actually one of the first books I read when I found out I was pregnant with twins and I learned a great deal about what I had in store for us as well as help me to set the right attitude.

If you enjoy this book, Elizabeth also has a sequel called Ready or Not…There We Go! about raising her twin toddler boys.  I highly recommend this book as well.
